Ply overview

Ply is an inventory, materials-management, and purchasing platform built for trade contractors. It follows material from supplier sourcing and RFQs through purchase orders, receiving, truck or warehouse stock, field use, job costing, invoice reconciliation, and supplier payment. Ply’s current product page describes this as a five-stage source, purchase, receive, manage, and pay workflow, while its help center overview documents warehouse and truck inventory, stock transfers, cycle counts, purchasing, replenishment, barcode scanning, and moving materials onto jobs.

That scope makes Ply adjacent to field service management rather than another dispatch FSM. It does not position itself as the system for scheduling technicians, managing customers, or replacing accounting. Instead, it connects the material side of a contractor’s operation to the FSM and accounting systems already in use. The clearest fit is a contractor whose jobs and technicians live in ServiceTitan, Jobber, or Housecall Pro but whose purchasing and inventory still depend on spreadsheets, supplier portals, and informal truck-stock processes.

Company and ownership

Ply says it was founded in 2022. Modern Distribution Management independently describes it as a New York-based cloud inventory and purchasing provider for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical contractors and identifies Dave Wigder as its co-founder and CEO. The publication also reported an $8.5 million strategic funding round led by Ferguson Ventures in December 2025, with existing investors Primary Venture Partners and SignalFire participating.

Ply remains a privately held, venture-backed company; the Ferguson transaction was an investment, not an acquisition. Its company page currently displays Primary Venture Partners, SignalFire, Stage 2 Capital, Banter Capital, and Ferguson Ventures as investors, and the website identifies the legal entity in its footer as Ply Financial, Inc. This matters for buyers assessing vendor independence: Ply integrates into the FSM market rather than being owned by one of its major FSM partners.

Ply pricing and plans

Ply does not publish dollar prices. Its pricing page says subscription cost is based on the number of stock locations—trucks plus warehouses—and offers Starter, Plus, and Enterprise tiers. All three include unlimited users. Month-to-month and annual billing are available, with a discount for annual contracts, and the vendor says onboarding and warehouse implementation are included at no additional charge.

The important differences are feature gates, not seat counts:

  • Starter covers core inventory and purchase-order management, RFQs, smart POs, fleet stock, replenishment, barcode and receipt scanning, supplier payments, reporting, and FSM integrations. It is limited to 25 purchase orders per month.
  • Plus removes that PO ceiling and adds mixed supplier bids, PO approvals, supplier integrations, tool and asset management, custom fields, smart min/max, picklists, cycle counts, NFC tagging, field requests, accounting integrations, advanced reporting, and a dedicated customer success manager.
  • Enterprise adds API access, multi-factor authentication, a custom service-level agreement, and quarterly or annual billing.

ServiceTitan, Jobber, and Housecall Pro connections are listed across all plans. QuickBooks Online and Sage Intacct require Plus, while API access requires Enterprise. The location-based model can be attractive for companies that want broad office and field adoption without per-user fees, but no buyer can calculate total cost from the website alone. A quote should spell out what counts as an active truck or warehouse, implementation scope, contract term, and the effect of adding or retiring vehicles.

Inventory, purchasing, and field workflow

Ply’s core advantage is the continuity of its materials workflow. Purchasing teams can request multiple supplier quotes, compare responses, combine winning lines from mixed bids, and turn the result into purchase orders. The vendor’s product documentation also describes AI-assisted quote capture and material matching, smart supplier suggestions, PO approvals, vendor chat, receiving, and three-way matching between a purchase order, receipt, and invoice.

Inventory can be tracked across warehouses and individual trucks. Barcode and receipt scanning reduce manual entry; Plus adds controls such as cycle counts, NFC tags, picklists, and configurable minimum and maximum levels. Field technicians can submit material requests through the app, SMS, voice, or phone, and office staff can turn approved requests into a PO or picklist. The product page also describes voice-created POs and real-time mobile stock views. Those capabilities address a common gap between a central purchasing team and materials actually consumed in the field.

The product is available on the web and through iOS and Android apps, according to Ply’s current help article. Buyers should still test their own barcode, warehouse, and truck workflows during a pilot: converting an existing parts catalog, cleaning units of measure, labeling bins, setting opening quantities, and establishing replenishment rules are operational projects even when the software includes onboarding.

FSM, accounting, and supplier integrations

Ply currently promotes connections with ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, AccuLynx, Zapier, and Ferguson on its product and pricing pages. Its help center maintains a dedicated integration documentation collection, which is more useful than a logo list when validating a specific workflow.

Integration depth varies by product and object. For example, Ply’s Housecall Pro sync guide says Ply syncs materials and jobs, not Housecall Pro services. Its job workflow documentation says Housecall Pro jobs flow into Ply and material usage can deduct stock. Buyers should therefore map the exact direction and timing of job, material, location, catalog, cost, and accounting data for their chosen systems instead of assuming every advertised integration is a universal two-way sync.

Ply lists FieldEdge as coming soon on its current pricing-page navigation, so it is not treated here as a live integration. Contractors on a different FSM, ERP, or supplier network should require a working demonstration or API plan before committing.

Industries and ideal customer

Ply’s industries page targets HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, low-voltage or technology contractors, garage services, garage doors, flooring, duct cleaning, and lock and security businesses. Its deepest fit is likely in material-intensive trades with repeat stock across multiple trucks and one or more warehouses. The product can serve smaller companies, but the workflow value increases when purchasing volume, supplier comparisons, truck replenishment, and job-cost accuracy have become difficult to manage informally.

It is less suitable for a new or very small contractor with little stocked inventory, or for a buyer seeking an all-in-one replacement for dispatch, CRM, payroll, general ledger, or construction project management. It is also a less obvious fit where the required FSM or accounting integration is unavailable or where warehouse processes are too immature to support reliable opening data and ongoing counts.

Independent review signal and tradeoffs

Independent customer evidence remains thin. G2 currently shows only two Ply reviews and explicitly says there are not enough reviews to provide buying insight. Both reviewers are from small businesses; their comments are positive about inventory control, integrations, pricing flexibility, and support, but both also describe meaningful setup effort or a learning curve. With such a small sample, those comments are useful implementation prompts, not proof of broad customer sentiment.

The main buying tradeoffs are straightforward. Ply offers unusually focused trade-material workflows, unlimited users, and an integration-led approach that lets a contractor preserve its existing FSM. In return, pricing is opaque, advanced controls sit behind Plus or Enterprise, Starter has a low monthly PO cap, and the company and independent review base are still young. A strong evaluation should include a quote using the buyer’s real truck and warehouse count, a sample catalog import, one complete purchase-to-job-cost scenario, and proof of the exact integration behavior needed.

Bottom line

Ply is a compelling specialist for contractors that already have field service software but lack a dependable materials system. It earns its place by connecting RFQs, POs, receiving, truck and warehouse inventory, field requests, and job costing rather than trying to become another dispatch platform. ServiceTitan, Jobber, and Housecall Pro users with several stocked vehicles or locations should shortlist it; buyers should enter the sales process expecting quote-based pricing and validate integration depth and implementation effort with their own data before signing.

Pros

  • Trade-specific workflow spans supplier sourcing through purchasing, receiving, inventory, field use, and payment
  • Live truck and warehouse stock with mobile requests, barcode scans, and replenishment controls
  • Core ServiceTitan, Jobber, and Housecall Pro integrations are included on every plan
  • Pricing is based on stock locations and every plan includes unlimited users
  • Free onboarding and warehouse implementation are included

Cons

  • Dollar pricing is not public, so buyers must request a quote
  • Starter is capped at 25 purchase orders per month
  • Accounting integrations, supplier integrations, and several inventory controls require Plus
  • API access, MFA, and a custom SLA require Enterprise
  • Independent review volume is too limited to establish broad customer sentiment
  • It complements rather than replaces dispatch FSM or accounting software
