Geotab is a reseller-priced fleet telematics platform with deep analytics, compliance, maintenance, open APIs, and a large app marketplace.
Geotab is a Canadian connected-vehicle and asset-management company founded by Neil Cawse in Oakville, Ontario, in 2000. Its core software, MyGeotab, brings vehicle locations, trip history, driver behavior, engine data, maintenance, fuel use, safety events, compliance, and reports into a web-based fleet-management platform. Geotab’s leadership page continues to identify Cawse as founder and CEO.
Geotab is not owned by a public software conglomerate or private-equity sponsor. A December 2025 Report on Business profile describes it as one of Canada’s largest privately held technology companies and reports that Neil Cawse owns roughly two-thirds, while his brothers and several hundred employees own the balance. The company’s LinkedIn profile also classifies Geotab as privately held and lists Oakville as its headquarters.
Geotab does not publish a direct rate card. Its reseller-led structure means the final quote can include software, telematics devices, cameras or sensors, installation, connectivity, support, and contract terms. TechRadar’s independent 2026 review estimates software at about $20-$40 per vehicle per month and hardware at roughly $80-$120 per unit. Treat those figures as a comparison range, not a Geotab quote.
The current rate-plan documentation lists GO Plan and Base/GO Core as available global plans. GO Plan includes the former ProPlus feature set, Active Tracking, EV data, Wi-Fi and Public Works support; Base/GO Core covers core GPS, VIN, Driver ID, basic IOX support, and harsh-braking detection. Regulatory, Pro, and ProPlus remain in the comparison table for existing customers but are explicitly marked as legacy and no longer available. Buyers should confirm the exact package name and included features with the proposed reseller.
MyGeotab’s product page documents live tracking, route information, driver-behavior monitoring, engine reporting, dashboards, custom reports, and SDK/API extensibility. The more detailed plan matrix adds trip logs, geofences, exception rules, engine diagnostics, maintenance reminders and schedules, more than 30 built-in reports, configurable access controls, HOS, DVIR, IFTA, asset inspections, and EV data, with availability depending on plan and device support.
This depth makes Geotab more than a dot-on-a-map tracker. It can connect location and trip data to driver risk, fuel and idle patterns, vehicle health, maintenance timing, compliance records, and management reporting. The trade-off is a denser product. TechRadar’s hands-on review found the platform highly capable for analytics and compliance but noted a noticeable learning curve and more pricing friction than a direct-sales product.
Geotab’s open architecture is a central differentiator. Its software-integration page documents data-feed APIs, the MyGeotab SDK, custom Add-Ins, and the ability to join telematics data with external APIs. The Marketplace distributes software Add-Ins, hardware Add-Ons, mobile apps, and integrated solutions across categories such as maintenance, fuel, compliance, routing, cameras, sensors, sustainability, and TMS/logistics.
Named integrations include Fleetio, which can receive location, odometer, fault-code, DVIR-defect, fuel-exception, and engine-sensor data, and a Salesforce workflow built with the Salesforce REST API and MyGeotab SDK. Geotab Data Connector feeds fleet and driver-performance data into Power BI, Excel, and Tableau. For construction fleets, Geotab also documents AEMP 2.0 ingestion for Caterpillar, John Deere, and Komatsu equipment data.
Geotab publishes dedicated solutions for field services, transportation and logistics, construction, utilities, government, courier and delivery, food and beverage, waste and recycling, and other fleet sectors. For field service operators specifically, its field-service solution connects real-time fleet visibility, routing, technician ETAs, proactive vehicle-health alerts, driver insights, in-cab coaching, and video telematics to service reliability and productivity.
Pick Geotab when the fleet is operationally important enough to justify configurable reporting, compliance workflows, engine data, asset tracking, and integrations. It is particularly strong when a field service or mixed-asset operator wants telematics data to flow into maintenance, BI, CRM, or other operational systems. A smaller team that only wants basic GPS location and a transparent checkout price should compare lighter, direct-priced alternatives before accepting the implementation and reseller overhead.
Geotab is one of the deeper and more extensible fleet telematics platforms in this directory. The platform earns its strongest marks for analytics, compliance, mixed-asset support, and integration flexibility; its main weaknesses are quote opacity, reseller dependence, and onboarding complexity. The buying decision should turn on whether the organization will use Geotab as an operational data platform, not simply whether it needs vehicle dots on a map.
