ERPNext
ERPNext is an open-source ERP that can support service operations with maintenance visits, support tickets, inventory, accounting, and CRM.
Overview
ERPNext is best understood as an open-source ERP that can cover parts of a field-service workflow. It handles customers, inventory, accounting, purchasing, issues, and maintenance records, which makes it appealing when field service is one operating process inside a larger business system.
It is not as dispatcher-friendly out of the box as a dedicated FSM platform. The tradeoff is breadth: if parts, invoices, stock movements, and customer accounts need to stay tightly connected to service work, ERPNext can be a credible open-source option.
Pricing
ERPNext can be self-hosted without license fees. Frappe also offers hosted plans, and many teams use implementation partners for setup, migration, customization, and support. As with most open-source ERP projects, the subscription savings are real only if the organization can manage the operational work.
When to pick it
Pick ERPNext when your field-service workflow is inseparable from ERP. Skip it when dispatch usability, native technician mobile workflows, and trade-specific forms are more important than accounting and inventory depth.
Pros
- Strong open-source ERP foundation with accounting, inventory, CRM, and support modules
- Useful fit for maintenance and service operations that need business data in one system
- Large Frappe/ERPNext community and hosted options
Cons
- Not a purpose-built FSM dispatch board
- Technician mobile workflows require careful configuration
- Implementation scope can grow quickly because ERP touches many departments
