Overview
openMAINT belongs in the open-source FSM conversation because many field-service teams are really maintaining assets, buildings, rooms, plants, or infrastructure. It is strongest for internal facilities and asset maintenance where location hierarchy and equipment history matter more than customer acquisition, estimates, and payments.
For contractors selling service work to outside customers, openMAINT will usually feel like the wrong center of gravity. For facilities, municipalities, universities, healthcare campuses, industrial sites, and property-heavy organizations, the asset-first model can be exactly the point.
Pricing
openMAINT has a Community Edition and commercial support options. The cost model is less about seat licenses and more about deployment, hosting, support, customization, and any commercial services needed for mobile, self-service, or integrations.
When to pick it
Pick openMAINT when the work order belongs to an asset or facility. Skip it when the primary workflow is residential dispatch, quoting, flat-rate pricing, payment collection, and customer marketing.
